A stop motion film is a magical way to make a short film on your phone or tablet. Once you learn the basics you can spend hours playing with it!

You will need to:

• use your phone or tablet

• download the free app "Stop Motion Studio" from the AppStore or GooglePlay.

• gather small objects, drawings, or paper shapes

• hold your phone steady - a stack of books works well

Open the Stop Motion Studio app on your phone or tablet, face the camera at your filming area. This is now your miniature film set!

Take a photo in the Stop Motion Studio app, then move your small objects a little and take another photo. Make very small movements and gradually move your objects in and out of view of the camera. You could make up a story, or enjoy the movement of your objects like a dance! Can you make it flow, jitter or bounce?

 

When you have around a dozen photos, play them back and see the still images become frames in a motion picture. You have made the beginning of a movie!

 

For backgrounds, cut out large photos from magazines. Characters could be drawn or cut out and collaged.
